Curriculum

In Nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS).  This offers guidelines for the education of young children from birth to the end of Reception (their first year in full time school).

Through the provision of high quality, planned and purposeful play we aim to develop the skills and concepts that are essential for all round development.

Following daily routines and preparing children for the start school is an important part of the Nursery day. As such, we deliver short teaching sessions where children are introduced to the foundations of Maths and Phonics.

We follow ‘Little Wandle Foundation for Phonics’ which involves children playing listening and speaking games. These short sessions introduce them to key phonics skills such as rhyme, rhythm, hearing different sounds in words and so on. Sharing stories and singing nursery rhymes also play a huge part in our Nursery.

Maths is taught in all areas of the Nursery through resources and activities available at all times to children. We follow the White Rose Maths scheme, which is used to structure short group sessions towards the end of their time in Nursery.

We have a fantastic outdoor area for children to use and explore. We understand the importance of children having access to outdoor space and we try to get outside in all weathers!

The space includes equipment such as bikes, scooters, climbing frames, slides and large building blocks. We also have a large, covered sandpit for children to use in all weathers, a large water station, areas for children to plant seeds and grow flowers and a ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ reading shed.
